How much did golf lessons help you?
I plan on trying out for my high school golf team this february. But, I am a senior so i have to make the varsity team. There are 4 people who are already on the team and have been for 3 years. So I am competing for 2 spots. Right now the best i’ve shot is an 88 on 18 and 42 on 9.
I keep going to get lessons but don’t know if they are worth it. I was wondering how much success some people have had with lessons, or if any. I don’t know if expecting to shed 5 shots off my game from lessons is reasonable.

You will only get from lessons what you expect to get from them. In other words…BUY INTO YOUR COACHES TEACHING. If you question his advice because you don’t see an immediate result, then you are doubting him, but worse, you are doubting yourself. NO ONE plays good golf with doubt in their mind about their swing.
PROBLEM: most people find the shots they hit in front of their teacher/coach are great. Away from the teacher/coach and you are back to square one.
ANSWER: Do not just focus on the drill he may give you by hitting shot after shot. Break it down to FEEL the results of the shot the drill is designed to teach.
BONUS: Fastest way to drop shots…short game. Learn to hit 150yd shots and in with accuracy and distance control. These shots do not require all out swing effort. If you are shooting 88 or worse, you are not hitting greens in regulation. If you are…your putting is horrible so work on that. Good luck.
edit: yes…they are worth it
yes do it they are worth it im 13 and they helped me get my score down into the double digits
I think golf lessons are necessary. We need others to advice ,maybe sometimes others can find out our mistakes more easily.
90% of golf is mental. That is the 100% truth. If you think your golf pro is helping you out and he is improving your game then keep him. But if you don’t (you obviously don’t or you wouldn’t have asked this question) then get rid of him. A golf lesson is like any other thing having to do with golf. You cant buy a better golf game! If you have been going to the same guy for a while then take what he has taught you and put it to use. If he taught you something that you just don’t think is right or that isn’t working for you don’t use it. That’s where the mental part or golf comes in. Every golf shot you hit has to have 100% confidence behind it or its doomed to fail. If you don’t think your golf pro is working for you any more he isn’t! Get out there and keep practicing you game will get better before you know it, and ditch the golf pro. He has probably filled your head with so many ideas you don’t know what to think.
Yes, golf lessons are important. But what is more important is finding the right instructor. I had taken lessons before and didn’t do that much. I came across one instructor whom I took 2 lessons and my game changed big time. Vs 10 lessons I took before that didn’t do much.
