I am a beginner looking to take golf lessons. Want to buy some good, reasonably priced clubs?

I am 23 about to graduate from college. I am beginning an internship this summer with bosses who love golf. Ive never golfed in my entire life. Dont know anything about it. But eager to learn. I am taking lessons this next month and will need clubs.

I dont want to buy crap and turn around and buy new clubs the following year. I want to look respectable not cheap, but I don’t have a huge budget being a new college grad an all. Any ideas of a good starting point? Im 6 foot 2 , by the way. Thanks!

OK i’ll try to make it short cause there are a lot of factors but i stick to the points you gave. First do research on who you take lessons with thats most important. Pick a teacher who can communicate well and can get his points across so the pupil can understand, very imp. AFTER taking a few lessons go to a reputable golf store and get ‘fitted’ for clubs, since you are taller that the average person. The price point i recommend is going to be where you are interested in the game, want to get better, and keep the clubs for awhile. A decent set of clubs $650-750, driver $350-450, 3-wood and 5-wood $ 250-350, $100- putter, $100-120 sand wedge. NEW PRICES obviously. Pls take a look at used clubs first before the major purchase. Ebay is tough cause a lot of fakes, and you have to know what to look for to avoid. If buying used sets just make sure the seller or store is reputable..

Look for a local sporting goods or golf shop and they should be able to help you better. Starting to play the game you don’t need to invest in new stuff, used clubs will work fine and are cheaper.

Go to diamondtourgolf.com and get what is on special. This will carry you until you learn the game and have enough experience to decide which direction you want to go and you have a better understanding of the game. The clubs are not crap. I have been playing with a set of them for 3 years and I am a golf instructor and a single digit handicap golfer.

Borrowing clubs from a friend would be a good idea at first maybe. If you buy clubs and hate the game you will have just wasted money so try playing first and buy a good set later on. Golf is expensive a cheap but still quality set will not go for much less than about $500. My brand new set cost me $800 with a driver, 3 wood, irons, wedges, and a putter and they were last years technology. Go to a sporting goods store and check them out. Being 6’2” won’t effect the clubs much you will just have to get about another half inch added to the shaft.

Go to your local golf shop and get fitted for clubs by a pro, but don’t buy them. Now go to E-bay and browse for the set, they’re much cheaper!

As a beginner,i suggest you can purchase some discount clubs, there are many websites offer new clubs but with cheap price, Like easybuygolf.com
some websites seems too good to be true, but i purchase clubs from this site since last year, recommened from my friends, their price really very cheap, and the quality is good.Besides, they offer free shaft fitting. You can ask them lengthen the shaft for your height.

To answer this question as asked. You are looking for a quality set that doesn’t come off as cheap, but you don’t want to look as if you have money either I take it.

http://www.golfsmith.com has all the name brand USGA regulation clubs on sale on the Pre-owned tab.
These maybe older clubs 2-5 years older, but it’s your budget. Look for a set that is + .25 long. I’m 6’2" myself and that is the recommended length.
After you find a set that you like, you can either buy them or go to ebay and bid or ‘buy now’ them there. Look around for a "Play-it Again Sports". They are basically a sports only Pawn shop. Buy Sell and/or Trade.

But if you don’t care about name brand clubs, there are knock-off websites that are super cheap.
But they also take away from the golf industry.

you can take a look at golfshopping18.com

Go to Dicks’ sporting goods and put some in your hand before browsing the web. Keys words to look for online or in store are:

Game Improvement
Cavity Back
Perimeter Weighting
Thick Sole Width
Max Forgiveness

These types of clubs are designed to place the weight low for a higher trajectory shot, react less to off center ball strikes, and give max distance for slower swing speeds. Good luck.

you can go to your local pro shop and choose something good.
the shop keeper will give you some good suggestions.
or , you can search some online.if you are not offensive to the online shop and have enough patient , you might get something wonderful .
